Make money from the energy you generate.

Did you know that choosing solar power for your home is still one of the best financial decisions you can make? You've probably heard about the reductions to the feed in tariff, but investing in solar can give you a return on your investment of up to ten per cent a year. The price of solar panels has fallen dramatically. At the same time, electricity prices and inflation have continued to rise. That means we've been able to lower our prices and put together a package which offers a tremendous rate of return for your investment. By installing solar panels you'll be saving money on your electricity bills, protecting yourself from future price rises and earning money for producing green electricity. Heatsavers latest deal means you can have a 3.99 kWp system with twenty one solar panels fitted for £8,500. A typical south facing home could earn £755 a year from the feed-in tariff and make annual electricity savings of £218. That would give you a return on your investment of at least 10 per cent a year. What's more the cash you receive is tax free, will rise with inflation and is guaranteed for twenty five years. And every time electricity prices go up, so will the amount of money you're saving on your bill. You'll also be playing your part in reducing greenhouse gases and cutting your carbon footprint. How many other investments can offer you that?

An introduction to Feed In Tariffs

As someone who cares about the environment, you know there are many steps we can take to save energy and help the planet. Microgeneration - the generation of zero or low-carbon heat and power by individuals, small businesses and comunities - is one way you could really make a difference.

How it works

There are many ways of becoming more energy self sufficient in your home, whether it is by installing a wind turbine, a small scale hydro system or producing your own electricity by installing solar photovoltaic panels.

HeatSavers would like to show you how you can efficiently produce your own electricity and also earn money on the energy you generate and don't use.

Your questions answered

Do I need planning permission?

The installation comes within permitted development, however, planning permission is necessary if your property is in a conservation area, an area of outstanding natural beauty, special sites of scientific interest, World Heritage site or listed building.

How is it fitted?

Brackets are attached to the roof structure and lightweight aluminium rails are fitted to the brackets. The panels are then fitted onto the rails. In addition to this microgeneration technology, we will install a generation meter.

How much maintenance is required?

The systems are maintenance free as the panels are cleaned when it rains and there are no mechanical parts.

How long will it take to get my cost back?

Estimated calculations and projections are done for each individual customer and the payback period is generally between 8 and 10 years.

How will I get paid for the electricity I produce?

Most electricity providers will pay you quarterly following a meter reading. What happens if I move home? Ownership of the microgeneration technology and the FITs will need to be agreed as part of the sale/purchase of the house. This is a matter for you to discuss with the prospective new owner/vendor.

Why is it better to use the generated electricity than to export it?

Due to the export tariff level being set at 3p per unit, it is more financially viable for you to use your generated electricity on site as this avoids the need to purchase electricity from your supplier at around 13p per unit (see diagram as above).

What if my microgeneration scheme produces more than 50kW?

Please contact Ofgem for details on accreditation.

What happens if I change suppliers?

You must inform your current supplier and ask your new supplier to pay your FIT payments.

Who is eligible to join the scheme?

If your system is less than 50kW, it must have been installed by an MCS accredited installer using MCS accredited products. If it is more than 50kW, please contact Ofgem for accreditation before contacting us.
